Not every project needs to take weeks. These five projects use chunky or super chunky yarn and big needles to give you a finished item in just a few hours.
1. Chunky Ribbed Headband
Time: 1 to 2 hours Yarn: 50g super chunky Needles: 10mm
Cast on 10 stitches. Work in 2x2 rib (knit 2, purl 2) until the band fits around your head. Cast off and sew the short ends together. Add a twist before seaming for a turban style.
2. Simple Dishcloths
Time: 1 hour each Yarn: 50g cotton DK Needles: 4mm
Cast on 40 stitches. Knit every row until square. Cast off. These make brilliant gifts and are perfect for practising tension.
3. Chunky Cowl
Time: 2 to 3 hours Yarn: 100g super chunky Needles: 12mm circular (40cm)
Cast on 40 stitches, join in the round. Knit every round until 25cm tall. Cast off loosely. Instant cosy neckwarmer.
4. Baby Hat
Time: 2 hours Yarn: 50g DK Needles: 4mm DPNs or circular
Cast on 72 stitches. Work 3cm in 1x1 rib, then stocking stitch until 12cm total. Decrease every 8 stitches across the next rows until 8 remain. Thread yarn through and pull tight.
5. Mug Cosy
Time: 30 minutes Yarn: Oddments of DK Needles: 4mm
Cast on 20 stitches. Work in moss stitch for 22cm. Cast off. Sew on a button and make a loop from chain stitch. Wrap around your favourite mug.
